Anime Genre

Many of our anime and ani - people are welcomed to watch anime through are various sources in this new century. However one thing that some of them overlook is the type they are in to.

For the last century we can recall the following anime / cartoons that envelops in America's 4Kid's television, Cartoon Network, and some others.

Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball (Z and GT)

Sailor Moon

Pokemon

Gundam (Wing)

G Gundam

Zoids (Chaotic Century and Genesis)

Yu Gi Oh

Naruto

Bleach

and more...

But out of those mentioned they are in the Genre of Shônen, Anime directly brought for male teens. The only one that is not is Sailor Moon a Shôjo, Anime for girls. There is also a Shônen Jump, a novel magazine of manga that is licensed for America, which is available in our local stores or orderings.

This article will only explain the following; Shônen, Shôjo, Mecha, Sentai, and Hentai

Shônen, is usually brought out to the public easily and I would say that these people know how to advertise these shows or manga. Yet if you ask some people what other anime do they watch they might as well name all of the Shônen animes.

Other than your typical Shônen flicks we are also brought to the side of Shôjo.

Most know are Sailor Moon, Shakugan No Shana, and Fruits Basket

Again I would state that there is nothing wrong with this genre either. For girls who are not into what their brother's taste of anime, they should be more interested in this genre. 

Is the Mecha area. This is where our Gundams (All 13 + Series), Zoids, Transformers and Super Robots are in.

Most people would instantly recognize a Gundam and name it Wing Gundam Zero (from Gundam Wing). However for what people I know around me there isn't much of them that watch anything else in this Genre, but like other genres we have our pro - collectors and watchers.

To these people there are two things you must know of Mecha Anime

1. The Real Robots, mecha shows not to far off of our technology, such as Gundams (Except G Gundam and Gundam Wing Endless Waltz), Macross Series, and Robo Tech

2. Super Robots, mecha shows that makes science like a little fly with their extra yet new ideas of technology. Some are Getter Robo Series, Mazinger Z, The Brave Series, and G Gundam. 

Personally this part of anime should be taken another look. Yes there are really bad or cheesy ways of a view of a Sci-Fi ,but some things are just out of hand. I have not truly looked through all of the series of this genre, but I know how large it can be. Every boy should have seen a giant metal machine that saved or destroyed things in their childhood now or before.

In a nutshell it is the team of super heroes trying to overcome a certain problem. An example of this in an American show would be the Justice League.

The only two that instantly comes to mind are Sailor Moon and Teen Titans.

However there are some anti heroes. One I particularly know is called The Skull Man.

The story surrounds a mysterious view of a serial killer that soon later becomes a hunt to find his true identity. Although it is very graphic, it shows a view of a evil being. I know there might be more series with a similar concept, but this series sticks to my head more than others.

But Sentai isn't limited to animation. In Japan they have a Super Sentai or Super Hero area much like our Marvel and DC, but most of theirs are live actioned. Two adaptations America tries to get from Japan are Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (One Series of the long Epic Series of Kamen Rider) and Power Rangers (In Japan it's called Super Sentai). However controversy making these series aimed for children isn't what it is planned to be. The original shows do show more mature content.

An easy way to put this genre into clear terms. It's extremeness of pervertedness into anime or manga. Due to limitations there will be no pictures of this genre.

Now many aims of this genre works like our porn industry, however there are many genres underneath Hentai.

Explaining this would be useless. If you have internet (hopefully since you are reading this) just use a search engine and type Hentai. For those too young please advise to your personal guardian and see if you are allowed to use your Internet Browser to look up this genre.

There is also a soft-core version called Ecchi. It's just a censored version of hentai usually a love story or lust story meant to be read than receiving pleasure from it. Most of them can be quite enjoyable.
